Writing & Digital Creativity

My Client Thinks I am a Magician.

By Queen Diana Story1 min read

SOMETIMES, I THINK CLIENTS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO KNOW WHAT THEY WANT BEFORE SENDING THAT FIRST MESSAGE.

There is something about working in the creative industry that will continually remind you that technical skills are only half the job.

The other half is understanding human beings.

Imagine receiving a website development request from someone who is absolutely certain they need a website.

You ask about the design.

They say, "Something modern."

You ask about the colour.

"Something beautiful."

You ask about the layout.

"Something professional."

You ask for a reference website.

"Just use your creativity."

At this point, you realise that you haven't received a website brief. You've received an examination question. 😂

And the funny thing is that this is not entirely unusual in creative work.

Sometimes, clients know exactly what they want their business to achieve but struggle to explain what the finished product should look like.

That is where creativity, experience and communication come in.

As someone who works across content writing, website development and creative direction, I've come to appreciate that delivering a good project requires more than knowing how to use the tools.

You must also know how to interpret ideas, ask the right questions and turn vague expectations into something tangible.

Because apparently, being a web developer sometimes means being a mind reader with technical qualifications. 😂

Have you seen the latest piece written for one of the platforms we write for?

Well, that's one of the reasons I share our work here.

Do take a look around, my website posts; you might find an interesting read waiting for you, remember we report daily global happenings too 🤗
