I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT BEING GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO CAN SOMETIMES BECOME YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM. ๐
By Queen Diana Story1 min read
When people discover that you can write, suddenly everybody has a story they want you to help them tell.
Someone needs a business profile.
Another person needs website content.
Somebody else wants an article rewritten, a proposal polished, a social media strategy developed or a script brought to life.
And because you also know how to develop websites, that conversation can quickly move from, "I need a small favour" to "Can you build an entire platform for me?"
At this point, I sometimes wonder whether people think creative professionals have a secret button that allows us to manufacture extra hours in a day. ๐
But honestly, I love the creative industry.
I love the process of taking an idea that exists only in someone's imagination and turning it into something people can read, watch, interact with or buy.
That is one of the most interesting parts of what I do.
However, one thing I've learnt is that having multiple skills doesn't mean you must say yes to every request that comes your way.
You must learn to prioritise, manage expectations and understand the value of your time.
Creativity is a gift, but it is also a profession.
And professionals deserve to be treated as professionals.
Anyway, if you ever find yourself asking a writer for "just a little help", please remember that the little help might require an entire afternoon. ๐
On another note, I regularly share articles written for the various platforms and companies we work with on my timeline. Take a look around whenever you have a moment. There is always something interesting to read.
