Tourism projected to account for 12% of UAE GDP this year, as GCC policymakers gather to discuss future of regional travel at ATM 2024

Ministers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain convened at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024 to discuss the streamlining of GCC tourism. The event is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 6-9.

A central topic of discussion was the GCC Unified Tourist Visa, which was identified as a key driver for growth in the region’s travel sector. Other critical factors highlighted included sustainability, infrastructure, and cultural initiatives.

Tourism plays a significant role in the UAE’s economy, accounting for 809,000 jobs last year, which is 12.3% of the national employment. This figure is projected to rise to 833,000 by 2024.
